Self Care Tips - Part 1

1)Bad Energy Stay Far Away

In the words of Wizkid, bad energy stay far away. My number one self-care tip is to distance yourself from anyone who prevents you from keeping your energy high, by bringing you down with their bad vibes. Set yourself boundaries; of course, we have friends and family who have their own good days and bad, and we choose to be there to support them when they need a little extra love. If, however, someone is no longer serving you any purpose and is only hindering your energy, then I would advise you to remove that person from your life, in order to make room for the people who match your vibrations.

2)Give Yourself Credit

My loves, you are currently surviving a global pandemic; whether you are a key worker, are currently furloughed, are home schooling the kids or are tuning into a uni lecture from home, you are all heroes and heroines. Give yourself some credit.

Start incorporating journaling into your evenings, write down five things that you are proud of yourself for achieving that day. This can be something as simple as waking up in the morning or making a home cooked meal instead of the takeaway that tempted you. Once you’re in the habit of doing this, add on five things you are grateful for. The magnitude of gratitude is unquestionable; once you start appreciating the smaller things, the bigger things will come for you, tenfold.

3)Drink Your Water

Natural dehydration occurs whilst we sleep and waking like this can leave us feeling tired, sluggish and ready to crawl back into bed. To combat this, keep a bottle of water by your bedside and drink it as soon as you wake up in the morning.

Not only will this leave you feeling revitalised and ready to start your day, but it will also give your metabolism an early morning boost, do wonders for your skin and give you the energy you need for your day ahead.

4)Move Everyday

I know that at the moment we don’t all have the motivation or energy levels for a full-blown workout every day, but some kind of movement is such an important part of self-care. Whilst an hour long HIIT session is not essential to have you feeling your best, trust me when I say something as simple as a thirty-minute walk on your lunch break will really leave you feeling lighter and able to go about the rest of your day.

If you don’t have the time available to dedicate a half an hour block to yourself then break it up into three ten-minute strolls. Essentially, there are no rules around duration or type of activity you do; you could be playing football in the garden with your kids or twerking in your bedroom. As long as you’re stimulating those endorphins and keeping your body somewhat active, you’re doing the right thing.

5)Eat The Pizza

If you’re successfully doing the above, you should be very proud. Self-care is essential but its not always easy to remember to dedicate time to ourselves for our own wellbeing. On that note, eat the pizza you’ve been debating about for an hour, you deserve it.
